Extremely simple - a means to lock to the current object. A la the padlock at the bottom of the MAX interface. Once locked, only that object responds to mouse controls, there's no way to accidently move another object.

A simple little thingy.
A shader extension, that controls a black "curtain". At 0%, the image is all white. At 100% it is all black. Therebetween, it is like a black curtain being pulled down the image.
If you put this into the transparency channel, you can, for instance, model a flower stalk, make the transparency channel all white (ie invisible), and the over time pull the black curtain. This will make the stalk appear to grow!

I have two:
1. for the vertex modeller - a knife tool that will split polymeshes along a specifc plane. like the one in Lightwave 3d
2. an adjustment to the aura post-render effect that will allow only an edge glow to appear on the object. Like in Lightwave 3d.

I would like to see a "Wet Sand Tool" where you can click the mouse
and depending on what height, viscosity, grain size, speed/vector of movement and consistancy
settings are chosen, you can "drip" the flowing "sand" into mounds
and build "poured" structures like a kid at the beach. Great for underwater formations, candle wax flow, lava flow, water pertabetions, cow pies, whipped cream toppings, puddle people and other organice yet geometric shapes.

I would like to have a new ext. that can make particle effects with various shapes. (not just triangles), and also with custom shapes that we create. This can be really effient for laser beam, instead of modeling each one, we could just put the particle effect on the gun, and it'll fire as many times as I want, and in the shape that I want also.

1. lattice modeler
2. head designer w/as many morph targets as possible.
3. Plug in for importing poser 4 models with links , constraints and IK. I don't know if it's possible, but it seems like maybe it would be a cr2 translater of some kind.
4. An extentsion for designing ropes and chains. All different kinds of rope (numbers of braids) and links (herringbone, etc.)
5. Oragami! (could include crinkled paper for trash scenes) This would be cool.
6. Fruit Designer...(I'll make the textures...Only so many fruits)
7. 4 simultanious views in the metaball modeler would be excellent (probably too much to ask for though.
8.money maker (literrally, preset coins and bills, wrinklabele, stackable, scatterable)
9. Better fucking motion blur. Fix for aliasing problem with abjects seen through a light cone with shadows. Man that blows.

I think it would be cool thing to have a renderman output, because Carrara would be a good modele and animation app for it. And including a extencion for renderman shader output would be fine, too. Carrara's particle system badly needs improvement. To draw a rectangle, triangle or circle is NOT enough! It should be possible to link a real object to the emitter to get random sized and random moved copies of that object. Blob-objects linked to the emitter should interact with each other to create all types of fluids. There are many things the particle systems lacks in comparison to for example Lightwave or the particles+ plugin for TrueSpace.

A "Surround Light" - If we get no Radiosity, this would help: This will allow you to simulate lighting coming from all around an object/scene without using distant lights which offer only directional light and shadow. Useful for space scenes lit by the surrounding starfield and landscape scenes where the sun has set and the sky is lighting the whole scene. Must allow to disable top half or bottom half of the imaginary sphere of light casting inward for lanscape scenes (isolate light from sky and light "reflected" from ground as two light objects).

A furrific/bonebender extension would be GREAT! There was recent discussion on the carrara mailing list that I'm sure you saw. I was thinking that if the writer of the original code for 3ds, et. al. were to make the source available with the stipulation that it only be used for a port to carrara, he might agree. Maybe not, but it's worth asking, and if he says yes you'll save yourself a lot of work.

I just found out Carrara does NOT let you use Photoshop Filter plugins as a post-rendering call,

If we could just drop PSP filters into Carrara's plugin folder and use them, the output capabilities would be HUGELY improved.

The Carrara tool that I most lust for would be an elegant, yet simple (easy to use) Poser figure builder. NOT to build the MESH, but to POSER-IZE it after I've built it in (or import it into) Carrara. The tool would make it possible to:
1) Easily identify poligons in mesh groups (shoulder, upper arm, forearm, hip, neck, etc.)
2) Would assist in standard (humanoid) Poser naming and hierarchies AND rotations
3) Would assist (with suggestions/alternatives) in NON-standard Poser naming, hierarchies, and rotations (like for a snake or winged creature)
4) Would map mesh to texture/bump template; individual control over mapping aspect for each Poser object.
5) Would export ALL appropriate Poser files (for the object, rotations, hierarchies, texture and bump maps, etc.; the whole Poser family)
I would kill (or spend good money) for such a tool. The better and more complete and more elegant (easy to use) it was, the more I'd be willing to pay.
Thanks.

Cloth. 3D Max and even animation master have moveable cloth. I believe it is called clothe reyes for Max. The cloth bends and sways with the figure as it would on the body of a human being irl. They also have an app. called shag, and MH3D has Fur, which both create hair that is dynamic in the way it moves as a character moves. When a character jumps, bobs, or sways, the hair reacts as a humans or animals would, and falls back in place after a few minutes. An extension for Carrara like cloth or Fur would enable a pelthora of special effects options. You could simulate grass growing over time, you could use cloth to make the rippling effect seen in the Film star-gate, or any vortex sci-fi portal you like. You could alos use it on a model for e-commerce to demonstrate how a companies clothing would look while irl. on a human being, and enable virtual runways. You would of course need a skeletal spline constructor before constructing such an app, like Bones Pro, Bones, or Hashs skeletal Bones. Basically a plugin that addressed these three needs, as well as a deformer for muscle and flesk (skin movement) deformation for the purpose of realistic character, and or creature, object creation for movement would move Carrara up a level in competition in the market and endear the creator of such an app to its users.

I haven't seen Geomoids in action yet, so I'm basing my comments on descriptions.
I'd like to be able to define bolts and nuts the way they are sold in hardware stores (both metric and inches) as well as defining the parameters manually (inside and outside diameters, length, number of revolutions, space between revolutions...)
I would also like to be able to determine the shape of the revolution (worn, square, round to make a spring, rectangular to make a slinky).
And, of course, I would like to be able to taper these bolts to make screws.
Thanks, I look forward to seeing this plug-in in action.

It's called um....um....Uniview or something.
It's basically an extension that allows you to adjust the sizing of the perspective box in the scene. It can be adjusted to fit anyone's needs. For example. If I want to create an Airport/Airfield. Uniview will allow me to expand the perspective box into a much bigger scale for easy construction of the scene. I've been trying to build an Airport/Airfield for a while now. The bounding box just don't cut it. I realized that I need something like Lightwave style view or Bryce style view to accomplish this. This type of extension may be helpful for creating something like landscapes or cityscapes or something. I'm not suggesting the extension to be based on expanding the size of the plane or bounding box. But to adjust the size of it to fit your or user's needs as well.

A plug-in to straighen up vertices along the X,Y,Z axis. When you make something in the FF Modeler, especially if you use curve points, it "warps" the vertices (forward and aft, for example) and this often results in either holes or cracks in the surface. You'll discover this when you submit a model for publication through Viewpoint, for example. One workaround is to export the object as a DXF, re-import it, convert it to a Vertex model, and clean it up from there. But this is tedious at best.

Hi,
There is a feature in MAYA that uses bone. It would be nice to have this feature in Carrara.
Can you develope a plug-in that can connect two objects in a distance together using a beam (something to represent a signal). When one of the two objects move, the beam streches and its length changes as the distance changes " AUTOMATICALLY" (like two aircrafts communicating, but you can show the communication signal between the two, no matter how far or how close they get). I use anything grows with the "point at" option, but it still does not do what I want it to do. The length does not change automatically. It is a pain to resize the line (signal) by hand.
Thank You

The ability to change the Carrara interface to resemble Infinidi 4.5, RDS 5.5, or a custom look and feel in the middle. Corel Draw has this and frankly it would be nice if Carrara had it too.

I know this is probably easier said than done but a water primitive would be a good idea.
Options could be it's density and then it would be resisted by any other objects. So for example.... if you had a wine glass, you could drop the primitive inside and it would settle with a flat surface but would be restricted by the vertices of the wine glass.
This is obviously very tricky as yu would have to reach into carrara's document to extract data before rendering. I think Cinema 4D has the same tool.
Chow.... The anything grooves and glows plugs are the nuts.... well done!

The Distance function is apparently not implemented in Carrara. In RDS, all you had to do was select two objects and the Properties window would show the distance between the hot points. No such thing in Carrara.

For those of us working with soundtracks, I'd suggest a plug-in to similar to Infini-D's ability to import audio files into a scratch track. We don't need full-blown audio editing, just something to help sync graphics/audio.

"F-stop" - A camera plug-in that simulates most of the normal functions of a real large format camera. Includes... f-stop adjustment(duh), exposure control(shutter speed), on the fly lens changeout slider(16mm-500mm), also a Depth of field calculator in inches and metric. You should be able to choose between Color and B/W film. The icing on the cake would; to be able to set the grain of the final exposure.
This might be a bit over the top, but, you asked.

I don't know if this would be considered a plug-in for Carrara or just a utility program that could be VERY helpful. Not ony for Carrara, but for Bryce, RDS, etc. How about an app/plugin that would convert RDS shaders to Carrara format? Or Bryce materials to Carrara shader format? It would GREATLY expand the number of shaders inherently available in Carrara. And with the huge number of shaders available in the RDS5.5 cd, it would be appreciated! As it is now, you must create RDS scenes with your shaders on objects, save the scene, open it in Carrara, and transfer all the shaders into Carrara to save in its format. It can be done, but it's a pain in the ass to do, not to mention very tedious. I am sure there are others out there who would LOVE to have easy access to an instantly expanded Carrara shader library - imagine the library if you were able to convert RDS shaders and Bryce materials to Carrara shader format!

what's missing in carrara is a simple way to build business grafics like pie charts. A choice of prefabs would be fine too. You can build those grafic with carrara now, but it could definatly be more simple using formulars. Have to make it a piece of cake!

Eric, this one is right up your line: a mesh converter that could take any polymesh and create from it a corresponding NURBS control cage for Amapi. This would allow sensible adaptation of bloated meshes from metaballs, terrain grids, amorphium, and excessive subdivision. The plugin should fit splines to the surface of a shape in a resourceful way (without too many control points), but it would not have to fix any problems with the original mesh. The result need not be obsessively precise, as the Nurbs control cage can be adjusted as desired. There is a product called Polytrans, I think, that converts meshes to Nurbs. Extremely expensive.

Well, obviously we want to composite Poser figures in backgrounds, this would give us raytraced shadwos and reflections! The president of CuriousLabs says Carraar no plans to integrate with Poser. The old manuals say to create objects in RayDream designer, the direct Poser imports of geometries and BVH animations don't have support from Carrarra. So what's a person to do? Buy an obsolete version of RayDream? I thought Carraa was to replace Bryce and Raydream and Poser in one program?

Dear Eric Graham,
First. I want to thank you for juggler and sculpt. I bought the 5th PAL Amiga 1000 in Australia and loved it from before I even owned it. Juggler effected my life and (even though I am no longer in 3D animation) changed and directed my life to where it is today. I still remember fondly the vertex direct editing of sculpt, only barely managed in modern software. I recall rendering for a week at a time, heck I have to thank you for allowing me the tools to start my first ever business when I was 17years old, helping form the first degree courses in multimedia in QLD Australia and creating the first 3D animated TV Commerical in QLD. You are one of the instrumental people in my life.
So you want an idea. Here it is, its as revolutionary as Juggler was (mayhaps only personal opinion).
I was hand animating vanishing points in Deluxe Paint back a decade ago and accidently did something really strange. I moved the vanishing point behind the observer. I was trying to find out what happened if I did not move the viewer or the object, just the vanishing points. What happened was that I saw 5 sides of a cube, it got smaller as it approached me. It was a bit aof a paradox shift.
Ever since then I have wanted 3D software that allowed you to assign, position and animate independant vanishing points for each object in a scene and define if they were 1, 2, 3 or 'infinite' type vanishing points. This would allow for situations, say where a tiny hand picks up a giant cup yet both are actually comaptible on a geometry level, object distortions outside the bounds of reality and in fact seeing around corners.
It has always struck me that 3D software never truly explored the notion of the 'impossible' failing to grasp that virtual nature and focused on making the real world.
I have never used the software you make extensions for, I found the link to here from a wikipedia entry. I got bored senseless waiting for images to render many years ago, I could render them faster in my head and the input device of a mouse just became frustratingly slow.
I don't mind what you do with this idea.
Thanks again for being you and just doing what you did.
Deep regards,
Cy Starkman
